Be A Volunteer

We need you.

Who can apply for the programme?

The swimming expertise of our volunteers and their passion for the world’s open water are what makes SwimTayka stand apart.

Our main aim is to teach children to swim and these volunteers are expected to have the following:

  • Swim / teaching experience. To be eligible to participate as a SwimTayka volunteer, you must be either a certified swimming instructor, have previous experience teaching swimming or have extensive open water swimming experience. In any two-week session, at least one swim teacher must have previous experience as a swim instructor.
  • A passion for swimming is most important.
  • Nationally recognised certifications from your home country in lifeguarding, swim instruction, or open water swimming experience.
  • Volunteers must carry individual International travel insurance with policy coverage for swimming and water-related activities, medical and political emergency evacuation.
  • Language proficiency.  The better you can communicate with the students, the safer it will be for them, the more they will learn, and the more rewarding it will be for you. In any two-week session, at least one swim instructor must ideally possess local language skills.

Although our core programme is to connect people who are passionate about swimming with poor communities who need swimming teachers, we always need back office staff to promote SwimTayka. Please take a look at our non-swimming roles here:
