Get Ready For A Life-Changing And Beautiful Adventure To Itacare, Brazil

SwimTayka is conducting its second annual project in beautiful Itacare, a small fishing and surfing town located in Southern Bahia, about 7 hours south of Salvador.  We have a two-month programme, running from mid-March 2019, where we will collaborate with a local NGO called ETIV do Brasil. There, we will conduct the swimming lessons, drowning prevention and environmental water stewardship course. To donate much-needed equipment for these swimming efforts, we are accepting donations of swimming costumes, goggles, whistles, and flotation devices.

For 2019, we are planning to involve over 60 children from Itacare in the program. The long-term goal is to create a self-sustaining swimming programme in the community and then to reach out and work with other communities near Itacare as well, building a healthy relationship for future exchanges and swimming projects throughout the entire area.

Language Requirement

We strongly recommend that those with little to no Portuguese, complete at least one-half hour lesson every day prior to arrival. It is highly recommended that volunteers learn at least basic if not intermediate Portuguese before arrival as not many people in Bahia speak English, and this will improve the safety of our program for the children you will be teaching.
