We have scheduled the SwimTayka English Channel Intro Day – Getting Ready for the Challenge for the 9th of September at Dover Marina Beach, starting from 10 am and ending at 3 pm, weather and conditions permitting.
The day’s events will take place at Dover Marina Beach and are tailored specifically for SwimTayka and our English Channel Intro Day. The itinerary for the day is as follows:
10:00 am – Gather at Dover Harbour, Swimmers Beach
10:15 am – Introduction to open-water swimming
11:30 am – Team talk
12:00 pm – Lunch (please bring your own)
1:00 pm – Swim in the harbour
2:30 pm – Questions and answers session
The first session will be an introduction to open-water swimming, during which a support kayak will be available. This is designed to provide you with an introduction to the English Channel and boost your confidence in the water.
What to bring:
– Swimming costume
– Goggles
– Green swim hat
– Warm clothing to change into after swimming
– A sense of adventure
Throughout the day, we will be observing your technique, pace, and fitness levels. However, it’s essential to remember that swimming in the English Channel is not a race; it’s an epic journey.
To provide valuable insights into becoming a Channel swimmer, we will have experienced past and present Channel Swimmers, Solo and relay swimmers, on hand to share their knowledge and experiences.
During a 30-minute break, we’ll have an informative talk about channel swimming, giving you a deeper understanding of the journey you are embarking on and what it entails.
Our aim is to conclude the day by around 3 pm and head home, but please be aware that timings might be subject to change.
Please note that Tea & Coffee, and lunch will not be provided. As the day will be busy and facilities to buy food may be limited, we recommend bringing a packed lunch for a working lunch during the break.
