Love The Oceans
Love the Oceans is a non-profit marine conservation organisation working in Mozambique. They use research, education and diving to drive action towards a more sustainable future. Their ultimate goal is to establish a Marine Protected Area for the Inhambane Province in Mozambique, achieving higher biodiversity whilst protecting endangered species.
Love The Oceans believes in a community-led, holistic approach to conservation. Through scientific research, educational outreach and capacity-building workshops, Love The Oceans aims to facilitate the transition from current unsustainable fishing practices towards sustainable fishing supplemented by alternative livelihoods.
At Love The Oceans they use fisheries, whale, trash & coral reef research, education and scuba diving in our conservation strategy to achieve our bottom-up, community-led approach to habitat protection.
As part of Love The Oceans’s commitment to their local community, they teach Sea Safety and deliver free swimming lessons to the school children on a weekly basis. Very few Mozambicans know how to swim and learning to swim opens up new job opportunities, alleviates poverty, and fuels a passion for the ocean.
Watch this video about the current swimming programme that they have done to date, and now the programme is expanding further with your help.

Language
We can provide you with self-learning lessons if you have little or no knowledge of the Portuguese language. We recommend you use these or take lessons elsewhere before departing for Mozambique, as a little knowledge is always hugely beneficial. It is not essential, just it will make it easier to work with the children.
