With over 29 years experience in the swimming industry from introductory level Instruction Learn to swim Development Officer posts then progressing to owning and managing programs for 15 years delivering to children of all ages at the grassroots level. In addition, I have also been involved at the other end of the spectrum training elite-level swimmers, the culmination being 3 Butterfly swimmers at the Olympic trials in 2000 to Sheffield. Other significant achievements at the elite level include having swimmers representing Great Britain and winning scholarships to prestigious universities.
I have also translated my depth of knowledge to expand on my wide range of qualifications and experience in the Aquatic Industry. This includes lecturing in Swim Teaching, open water swimming coaching, Water Safety Management, First aid, Automated External Defibrillator, Pool Lifeguard and also including internal quality assessor level 3 and now runs a very successful Open Water Swim Event Series.
While I have reached the highest level of coaching I am now exploring and expanding my knowledge by the alternative swim coaching methods – Total Immersion. When you open your mind up to the alternative approaches available with progressive kaizen learning you experience a fundamental shift in your thinking on how we should approach the skilful art/science of swimming technique leading you to challenge your creative thinking and pushing boundaries of current methodologies in swimming. Being introduced to Total Immersion Swimming did this for me. Total Immersion is a proactive well thought out principle and applied approach to swimming which made perfect sense to me both mechanically and psychologically giving the missing links in my understanding of swimming in today’s market. I have greatly enjoyed Total Immersion both on a personal level by applying it to my own swimming but also passing this knowledge on to others who are keen to improve themselves.
Expanding on from the developments made within my knowledge of swimming and the training of First Aid. I have also ensured the safety of and understanding of our customer base by stepping foot into the vocational world of First Response Emergency Care having completed Level 3 and Level 4 with additional merit in supportive certification in Safe administration of Lifesaving Medication. This has also been backed up by completing the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) course supporting the greater knowledge of Health and safety within my roles and engagement with our customers.
